Jack Phillips, Construction Project Manager

Jack Phillips, Construction Project Manager

Jack Phillips is a Craftsman, Builder, General Building Contractor and Construction Project Manager with over 35 years of experience. Jack's career experience is vast beginning in the summer of 1978 working for Earl Carroll Custom Cabinets while attending LA Trade Tech College majoring in Construction. In the early years, Jack worked for many different companies in many phases of construction to gain vast practical knowledge of the building industry. In 1984 at the age of 25, Jack earned a California General Contractors license which he still holds today. Through his mid 20's and 30's, Jack worked as a General Contractor in his own company and as a Working Foreman and Building Superintendent for other much larger construction firms. Looking back, he feels very fortunate to have been taught how to build by a generation of carpenters that were true craftsmen and builders. Working for craftsman taught by a previous generation, Jack gained valuable hands on experience in concrete, framing and finish because these trades were never subbed out. In the old days, building homes in phases was just plain common sense. There were no computer programs used in scheduling the project. Contractors planned what they were going to build and then proceeded to build it. The lessons from those years are too many to count. Going to work was like going to school. We showed up a half an hour early and left a half hour late because we weren't allowed to roll out, or roll up our tools on company time. We learned how to form and pour hillside foundations. We were taught how to frame homes and how to do "plumb and line" the right way. We learned how to hang doors before they were pre-hung. We installed full mortise hardware with lock mortising machines and installed the weather stripping ourselves. Learning how to build homes from men that knew how to build it right the first time was priceless. By the age of 28, Jack was considered to be one of the finest finish carpenters in the Santa Clarity Valley after setting finish on many custom homes.

The computer age brought in a new breed of construction management, so in his early 30's, Jack continued college learning computer operations and typing. After the housing crash of 1988, he branched off into heavy commercial and industrial construction. One of his more notable industrial projects was moving a drop hammer facility named Titanium Specialties from Pacoima to Taft which is a little oil town East of Bakersfield. Jackson was responsible for setting up the entire facility including drop hammers and heated presses that weighed in excess of 150K lbs.

For 10 years, Jack was employed by many high end construction firms in Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Malibu and Ventura areas as a Building Superintendent and Construction Project Manager, building custom homes up to 12,000 square feet. He has also completed many residential and commercial high rise tenant improvements in the La Tour building and the Wilshire Towers in Westwood, just to name a few. Employed by many different Construction firms, Jack established a solid foundation in Construction Management working with Owners, Architects, Engineers, Consultants and Sub-contractors. His acquired skills in contract administrations and computer program management are the most widely used in the construction industry today. Most of the paperwork utilized by Jackson Construction to manage projects was not originally created by Jack but rather collected from the many companies he has been employed, and then improved upon.

In 2006, Jack was hired by Project Management Collaborative in Encino California as an Owners Representative, Construction Project Manager. At PMC, Jack completed many large custom homes and various other high end projects in Brentwood, Beverly Hills and the greater Los Angeles area. At PMC, Jack enhanced his construction management and contract administrations skills, as well as his communication skills with clients.

Today Jack is the owner of Jackson Construction, a General Building Contractor and Custom Home Builder.

Jack is a frequent public speaker opposing excessive building regulations and development fees.

Every opportunity Jack has, he teaches the next generation how to build homes right.
